ELES BOOTUR

PREFACE

Olonkho is the highest point of Yakut people literature. Due to its size, its

great characters and its rich imagination it goes side by side with such world
famous eposes as Iliada and Odissey of the Greeks, Song of Haiwatha of the
Indians, Kalevaala of the Finns, Bylinaof the Russians. It has a lot of in common
with Manas and Djangar in Turkic languages.
A person is brought up by his nation and by its language. A nation spirit, its

strength is a language. Peculiarities of a Sakha to see far and to hear clearly are
given in a rich language of olonkho and are preserved up to day.
The wealth of a nation is its language. The language is wisdom and talent of

any nation. A nation preserving its old language and developing its language will
never be defeated. It’s high time an olonkho to be studied, to be published and
translated into other languages. And only then the culture of Sakha people will
become known in the world.
Our olonkho is known to be an ancient culture. But its idea and contents, its

language given in the dictionary of Pekarskey in full, are used in the modem
literary language. A nation having the past will have the future. If the language of
olonkho is restored, a creative talent will come back. That’ll be our future to
develop and flourish. It’s not the problem only of our nation, but it’s the trouble

of the whole world.
Our well-known writer Oiuunskey P. wrote angrily: Folklore and olonkho of
any nation are the first steps to develop. Our olonkho is deep and wide with a rich
language. It combines several centuries, several nations, their thoughts and lives.

In any song and olonkho the most valuable thing is the power of its language and
its images. Why are you against olonkho? Great talented people, olonkho-singers
of our small people, oppressed by others ,were like a beacon in a hard and dark
life to encourage and light up their people. Why are you trampling them down?

Who are you ?!!
There are a lot of kinds of olonkho depending on an olonkho-singer and
peculiarities of the place he is from. Taatta Ulus is considered to be the place of
great olonkho-singers: Oloodo, Kileemper, Tabakhyrov, etc.Their followers are
Burnashov I.I.-Tong Suorun, Zakharov T.V.-Cheebei, Govorov D.M., etc. Ogotoev

P.V.(1910-1977) and his olonkho Eles Bootur Having Black Bear Horse came
from this very place.
